Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown (7N) position at an acute care, Level II Trauma facility in West Virginia, requiring drip titration experience and night shift availability.

Details

• 29-bed Cardiac/Telemetry Stepdown unit (7N) in an acute care, Level II Trauma hospital
• Patient population includes cardiac patients, CR bands, post-cath, AMI, post-op lung surgeries (after CCU), respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and post-PCI cases — no sheath pulls or arterial lines
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
• CNA support available, ideally 1 CNA per 12 patients (typically 3 on days, 2 on nights)
• Charge nurse available 24/7; day charge does not carry a patient assignment, night charge does
• Nurses must read and interpret their own telemetry strips using Philips monitors
• CPAP and BiPap present on unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy
• Charting via Epic (experience required)
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every-other-weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
• Floating to other Med/Surg Tele units as needed
• Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff

Requirements

• Active WV RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Telemetry strip reading and interpretation experience required
• Must be proficient in titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Integrelin, Heparin, Ativan, Lasix, and Nitro up to 50 mcg)
• Epic EMR experience required
• BSN not required
• Driver's license required for consideration
• 2 references required — 1 supervisor and 1 peer or additional supervisor (if perm employment within last 12 months, one reference must be from that facility)
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration

Additional Information

• Responsible for the care of cardiac and cardiopulmonary stepdown patients, including post-surgical and respiratory cases
• EKG testing (pass/fail) is required for this stepdown unit
• Scrub color requirement: royal blue
• No artificial (false) nails permitted
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this travel position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
• Cumulative travel experience at WVU Medicine facilities may not exceed one year; a 2-year break is required once that threshold is reached
