Details
- Acute care hospital setting on a 49-bed Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit (3rd Floor)
- Patient population includes CHF, COVID, respiratory, GI, diabetics, post-cath, total joint replacement, CVA, and TIA cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with nurse aides available at a 1:10–15 ratio
- RNs are required to interpret telemetry strips and sign off at least once per shift; monitor techs are also present on the unit
- Diltiazem/Cardizem drips administered at a set rate (no titration required)
- Respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and breathing treatments
- Charting via Cerner EMR (experience strongly recommended due to limited orientation)
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a), 13-week contract
- Two weekends required per 4-week schedule
- Floating may be required to the East Campus and potentially PCU if qualified; travelers are first to float
- No on-call or standby requirements
Requirements
- Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience reading and interpreting basic telemetry strips required
- Experience with CVA/TIA patients and total joint replacement patients required
- Cerner EMR experience strongly recommended
- Valid driver's license required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (DL used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, care for complex medical-surgical patients, strip interpretation, and administration of set-rate cardiac drips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor support available on the unit
- Unit orientation consists of one 12-hour shift; Cerner experience is strongly recommended given the limited onboarding time
- Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% within two attempts prior to contract confirmation; failure to pass within two attempts results in ineligibility for CommonSpirit AZ positions for 6 months
- A pass/fail skills test on sterile technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) is administered on the first day of orientation
- Holiday coverage is expected for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day — travelers are expected to work a combination of 2 days and 1 eve, or 2 eves and 1 day across these holidays
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Self-scheduling is used but schedules are finalized by the manager on a 4-week cycle
