Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 Labor & Delivery position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to manage high-acuity obstetric patients.

Details

  • Hospital-based Labor & Delivery unit with 10 L&D beds, 4 OB ED/triage beds, and 4 antepartum rooms
  • High-acuity patient population ranging from low-intervention laboring patients to complex high-risk cases, including preeclampsia, preterm labor, and antepartum patients under 35 weeks gestation
  • Unit is affiliated with the only Level 3 NICU within a 350-mile radius and accepts patients with a wide range of risk factors and complications
  • Patient care includes antepartum, OB triage/ED, active and inactive labor, postpartum, and couplet care
  • Patient ratios: 1:3 antepartum, 1:2 inactive labor, 1:1 active labor, 1:3 postpartum/couplet care
  • Travelers will be required to provide postpartum/couplet care throughout the contract
  • Charting system: Epic
  • 12-hour variable shifts (0630 or 1830 start times); must be comfortable working both day and night shifts throughout the contract
  • Every-other-weekend rotation required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Holiday coverage required as needed

Requirements

  • Active RN license — SD license or Compact RN license valid in South Dakota required
  • Required certifications: BLS and NRP
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS, inpatient obstetrics, electronic fetal monitoring, or inpatient antepartum
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience, preferably in a Level 3 or higher L&D unit (one associated with a Level 3 or higher NICU)
  • Competency to manage high-acuity labor patients, including preeclampsia, preterm labor and delivery, and management of patients under 35 weeks gestation
  • Epic EMR experience strongly preferred; candidates without it require manager approval
  • Proficiency in IV starts, cervical checks, phlebotomy, magnesium sulfate administration, blood administration, insulin administration, C-section circulation, and C-section recovery care
  • Level 2 nursery baby experience highly preferred
  • Graduate of a board-approved nursing education program
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
  • 2 professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 4 days with a preceptor — 3 days in L&D and 1 day in postpartum
  • Unit support includes a unit secretary, scrub tech, charge nurse, VAT team, RT (available 24/7), OB physician team, and anesthesia/CRNA
  • Cobalt blue scrubs required; scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
