Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg & Peds unit at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring pediatric experience and rotating day/night shifts.
Details
- Acute care setting at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
- 17-bed unit (14 inpatient, 3 observation) serving adult and pediatric patients
- Common diagnoses include UTI, altered mental status, pneumonia, and COPD
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 on days, 1:5 on nights
- 2 nurse aides on days, 1 nurse aide on nights; charge nurse on each shift and takes an assignment
- ICU monitors telemetry and reads strips; Med/Surg-Peds RNs apply telemetry to patients
- Occasional BiPap on unit, managed primarily by RT; no ventilators on this unit
- Pediatric patients are not managed by hospitalists — pediatrician is on call, not in house 24/7
- Charting via MEDITECH
- 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (1 week days, 1 week nights)
- Weekends required as needed; no holiday requirement
- Self-scheduling available
- Travelers are first to float, with floating to ED/ICU for 1:1s as needed
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS and PALS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Pediatric experience strongly preferred (less recent experience will be considered)
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
- Cannot have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year (PRN through outside staffing firms is acceptable)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Scrub color: navy blue
- Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift (one day and one night shift if additional orientation is needed)
- Candidates with facial hair must pass a fit test (3M Aura 1860 or 3M 1870+); inability to pass without removing facial hair may result in contract cancellation
- RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after submission
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication, and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team are key to success on this unit
