Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring strong vasoactive drip management experience and the ability to work night shifts in a high-acuity, ICU-level stepdown environment.

Details

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at an acute care hospital setting, functioning at a high acuity level similar to an ICU
  • 20-bed unit (18 ADC) serving an ICU stepdown population
  • Patient population includes post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho), pre/post OB with complications (Pitocin), and adolescent through geriatric patients
  • Patient ratios of 3:1 or 4:1
  • One vasopressor drip maximum per patient; patients requiring additional pressors are transferred to ICU
  • Vasoactive drips used on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
  • Specialized equipment includes bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup, A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and trachs; no ventilators on unit
  • EMR: Epic; medication dispensing: Pyxis
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), three shifts per week
  • 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit
  • No block scheduling
  • 13-week contract minimum

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown unit experience required
  • Strong experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips required
  • Required clinical skills: telemetry monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin protocols, CVA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, isolation precautions, IV insertion, and conscious sedation
  • Must pass an EKG test prior to start
  • 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Full hospital orientation during week one; candidate must be available for classes each day of orientation week
  • Scrub colors: navy, white, or a combination of both
  • No RTO is permitted after booking and may not be worked out onsite; call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
