Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU Stepdown position requiring strong vasoactive drip management and arterial line experience, with night shift availability and every-other-weekend commitment.

Details

  • Hospital ICU Stepdown unit environment with 20 beds (ADC: 18)
  • Patient population includes post rapid response team patients, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op surgical patients (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho), pre/post OB with complications, and patients ranging from adolescent to geriatric
  • Patient ratios of 3:1 or 4:1
  • Unit operates similarly to a full ICU but is limited to one vasoactive pressor drip per patient; patients requiring more are transferred to ICU
  • Vasoactive drips administered on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo
  • Specialized equipment includes bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup, A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and trachs — no ventilators on unit
  • EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis
  • Night shift: 18:45–07:15 (3x12-hour shifts)
  • 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required as needed to a sister ICCU unit
  • No block scheduling
  • 13-week contract length with the possibility of extension

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Strong experience with arterial lines and titrating vasoactive drips is required
  • Required skills include: PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience, telemetry monitoring and interpretation, dysrhythmia recognition and management, rapid response team protocols, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central line care/management, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, heparin protocols, CVA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, and isolation precautions
  • IV start experience required
  • Conscious sedation experience required
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Unit runs similarly to a full ICU with a high acuity stepdown patient population
  • Hospital orientation occurs during week one and requires attendance each day
  • Scrub colors: navy, white, or a combination of the two
  • RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite — call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
