Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit position at a major Level IV Trauma teaching hospital, requiring a WV or Compact RN license and oncology-focused clinical skills.

Details

• 29-bed Medical Surgical/Oncology unit in a short-term acute care, Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital
• Adult patient population including medical and surgical oncology, palliative care, urology, and telemetry patients
• Patient ratios of 4-5:1 on days and 5-6:1 on nights
• Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• Weekday shifts with every other weekend required
• 36- or 48-hour contract options available
• Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
• Charting performed in Cerner

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
• Current BLS certification required
• ONCC or ONS certification required
• Proficiency with telemetry monitoring required
• Experience with central line draws, ports, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration assist, and PleurX chest tubes required
• Chemotherapy administration experience preferred but not required for strong candidates
• Two manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
• Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical or allergist documentation required for exemption

Additional Information

• Facility is a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH) with 838 total staffed beds
• Scrub color for RNs is royal blue or white
• Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated when possible
• Holiday RTO requests should be limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
• COVID vaccine is not required
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
• Former permanent employees of this health system must have been separated for at least 2 years before being eligible to work as a traveler
