Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level I trauma center in Springfield, IL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and a broad range of emergency clinical skills.
Details
- 56-bed combined Adult/Pediatric Emergency Department in a 562-bed acute care, Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated hospital
- Evening shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hours (15:00–03:30)
- High-volume department with an average daily census of 175 patients
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers
- Charting in Cerner (experience required)
- Free parking available on-site (permit required, obtained during orientation)
- Any solid scrub color accepted
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required, or must be actively in the application process with an ETA to apply
- Minimum 2 years of ED experience required, including combined Adult and Pediatric emergency care
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC — must be active and from AHA or Red Cross (RQI AHA cards not accepted)
- Cardiac monitoring skills: dysrhythmia interpretation and management, management of multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, 12-lead EKG acquisition
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration, phlebotomy, and IV insertion
- Medication administration skills: continuous IV sedation, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, and procedural sedation
- Neurological case experience: CVA, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
- Orthopedic skills: splint management and application
- Pediatric case experience: abdominal pain, asthma, head injury, abuse identification and reporting, infections, poison ingestion, respiratory infections, seizures, and skin disorders
- Psychiatric case experience: acute psychosis, drug overdose, management of violent behavior, and suicidal patients
- Respiratory skills: chest tube insertion/management and intubation
- Proficiency in triage and isolation precautions
- Cerner EMR experience required
- SSN and DOB required for consideration

- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- RTO of up to 5 days is generally accommodable; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
