Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a high-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry position at an acute care hospital in Florida, requiring 2 years of experience, Rapid Response team experience, and total joints experience.
Details
- Work in a mixed, high-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry unit at a 210-bed acute care hospital
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Rapid Response team involvement is part of the unit's scope of care
- Total joints patient population is part of the caseload
- Charting is done in Meditech
- Day shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within scope
- Block scheduling is not available for this position
- Free parking available in any unrestricted space
Requirements
- Active FL RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Rapid Response team experience required
- Total joints nursing experience required
- 1:6 patient ratio experience required
- Meditech EMR experience preferred
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Must be available to complete a mandatory clinical orientation week of 5 shifts (36–40 hours) during the first week
- Pre-start online modules should be expected to take at least 4 hours to complete prior to the start date
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 1 holiday; if 3 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 2 holidays
- No time off (RTO) is permitted during the first or last week of the assignment
- All time-off requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration

Most of the physicians (around 80%) are pleasant and collaborative, which makes day-to-day interactions smoother. The absence of trauma cases can also contribute to a more predictable and less high-intensity workflow.
Cons
Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
