Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at an acute care hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and comfort managing a 1:6 patient ratio with PCU-level patients.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care hospital with 210 staffed beds
- Med/Surg Telemetry unit caring for PCU-level patients
- Patient ratio of 1:6 required
- Orthopedic and total joint replacement patient population
- Charting is performed using Meditech
- Day shift, 4x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:00)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope required
- Block scheduling is not available
- Free parking on-site in any unrestricted space
Requirements
- Active FL or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Must be comfortable managing a 1:6 patient ratio with PCU-level patients
- Experience with orthopedic and total joint replacement nursing care strongly preferred
- Candidates must reside more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide Med/Surg Telemetry nursing care to PCU-level patients, including orthopedic and total joint replacement cases
- Clinical orientation week requires availability for a mandatory 5 shifts (approximately 36–40 hours)
- Approximately 4 hours of online modules must be completed prior to the start date

- Holiday coverage is required based on the number of holidays falling within the assignment period
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial application
- Local candidates are not eligible for this position

Cons
Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
