Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Long Term Acute Care position in a Medical Rehabilitation Unit, requiring prior travel experience and a background in medically complex patient care.
Details
- Medical Rehabilitation Unit (MRU/CMU) within a long term acute care hospital setting — this is a medically complex environment, not a traditional Med/Surg unit
- Primary patient population includes LVAD, CVA, ABI, SCI, wounds, CAPD, and ventilator-dependent patients
- Patient ratios are 1:7 (days/evenings) and 1:9 (nights)
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend is required
- Floating to like units is required based on weekly need, with respiratory units having the highest float demand
- Float units include: Respiratory Care Unit/Respiratory Step-Down (ratios 1:9 D/E, 1:12 N), TBI/Medically Complex Chronic Care TRU (ratios 1:7–10 D/E, 1:12 N), and a satellite campus Medical/Rehab/Respiratory unit (ratios 1:5–8, average 6–7)
- Float RNs will not be assigned to Pediatrics unless pedi-specific
Requirements
- Active CT or Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 1–2 years of RN experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Experience with respiratory and/or ventilator-dependent patients strongly preferred (nurses do not manage ventilators — respiratory therapists handle vent management)
- Proficiency in IV starts, IV drips, blood administration, EKGs, medication titration, glucose monitoring, wound vac changes, complex and simple wound dressings, trach care, suctioning, straight cath, Foley care, port access, central line dressing changes, and wound measurements
Additional Information
- RNs are responsible for a broad range of procedures including trach care, wound management, port access, and central line dressing changes in a medically complex rehabilitation environment
- Respiratory therapists (RTs) are responsible for ventilator management — RNs support but do not manage vents
- 13-week contract
