Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Stepdown & EMU position requiring strong neuro experience, NIHSS certification, and Epic proficiency.
Details
- Work setting is an acute care hospital Neuro Stepdown and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with 31 total beds (25 Stepdown, 6 EMU)
- Higher-acuity neuroscience patient population including stroke, seizure, craniotomy, and EVD patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:5-6 for the EMU floor
- Nurse aides are available on the unit at a ratio of 1:8-9 (4 aides per shift)
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7
- Respiratory therapy (RT) is available 24/7 and manages floor vents; RNs are not required to have vent experience
- Telemetry is present on the unit; RNs are not required to read strips
- Drip titration is performed per physician orders; common drips include Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitro, Dopamine, Nipride, Ketamine, Lasix, Bumex, and Insulin
- Charting is done via Epic (experience required)
- Schedule is 12-hour day shifts, 3 days per week (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Weekend requirement is every other weekend or 2 weekend shifts per schedule
- Holiday coverage is required as part of the rotation
- Floating may be required to units 7E, 7W, 7NE, or 10W
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong neuro nursing experience required, including history of caring for stroke patients and implementing NIH assessments
- Epic EMR experience required
- BSN is not required
- Driver's license address must reflect a residence more than 50 miles from the facility
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide stepdown-level nursing care to higher-acuity neuroscience patients including stroke, seizure, craniotomy, and EMU cases
- EVD experience is preferred, though perm staff are typically assigned those patients; TPA patients more than 24 hours post-administration are managed by permanent staff only
- Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the unit
- Scrub color is royal blue
- COVID vaccination is required; medical or religious exemptions may be requested via the facility's exemption process
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning
- Travelers who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must also take a 2-year break before returning
- 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (must be from a perm facility if worked there within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
