Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced ED RN for a high-volume trauma center requiring TNCC, ACLS, PALS, and CPI certifications, with night shift availability and Epic proficiency.
Details
- 32-bed Emergency Department with the capacity to flex up to 10 additional hallway beds plus 5 recliner chairs
- Extremely high-volume ED located near 3 major highways; patient population spans all ages and includes daily traumas such as MVAs, GSWs, stabbings, mass casualty events, stroke alerts, and STEMIs
- Additional patient population includes behavioral holds (including Alzheimer's patients), patients arriving with correctional facility escorts, and occasional pediatric holds awaiting transfer
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5
- Support staff includes 2–5 techs per shift, a unit secretary, and possible LPN support per RN zone
- Equipment includes Alaris pumps, Panda warmers, Hamilton ventilators, Autopulse, GlideScope, AmbuScope, ultrasound, EKG machine, bladder scanner, cast cutter, Philips monitoring, and Omnicell
- Epic EHR is used; proficiency within the last year is strongly preferred
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:30 AM, 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- One major holiday required per contract
Requirements
- Active RN license (VA state or compact) currently in hand
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and CPI De-escalation Training
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Experience in a large ED or trauma center strongly preferred
- Epic EHR proficiency within the last year strongly preferred
- Copy of nursing diploma required for consideration
- Candidate's full SSN, DOB, 1 supervisory reference, Nursys license verification, and proof of address (driver's license, voter registration, tax return, military Form 2058, or W-2) required for consideration
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Provides comprehensive nursing care including triage, stabilization, resuscitation, and crisis intervention across all age groups from neonates through adults
- Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team including EMS, law enforcement, protective agencies, crisis services, and transfer centers
- Must pass an EKG exam during orientation (two attempts allowed); a study guide will be provided in advance
- Work environment involves high stress, fluctuating workloads, potential exposure to physical altercations, verbal abuse, hazardous substances, and infectious materials
- Nurses may be required to use physical restraints
- First-time travelers are not mentioned as accepted; prior ED or trauma center experience is strongly emphasized
