Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg Tele experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

• 26-bed general medicine unit within a 885-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center
• Patient population includes general medicine diagnoses such as diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal, and wound care, with procedures including chest tubes, trachs, and lab draws
• RN-to-patient ratio of 5-6:1; CNA support at 8-9:1
• Telemetry monitoring is centralized with strip signing required each shift
• EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
• IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; vital signs: Philips equipment
• 12-hour day shifts, 0630-1900, with 36 hours per week on a 6-week scheduling cycle
• Night shift option also available: 1830-0630
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Floating required to other Med/Surg units
• No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
• Proficiency with chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains and tubes, and PCA pumps required
• Experience with drip management including Amiodarone, Fentanyl PCA, Ketamine PCA, Dilaudid PCA, and Heparin required
• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills with ability to work collaboratively
• Ability to tolerate moderate to high stress levels
• At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct and indirect patient care to a general medicine population, including management of drips, wound care, and respiratory support
• Department support includes CNAs, a Receptionist/HUC, Charge Nurse, Phlebotomy (RN responsible for STAT draws), Rapid Response Team, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
• Orientation consists of a facility NEO followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• Time off requests require Nurse Manager approval
• Royal blue scrubs required

• First-time travelers may be considered with a strong Med/Surg background
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
