Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Neuro position at a Level II Trauma, Magnet-status acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

• 13-week contract at a 372-bed acute care hospital with Level II Trauma designation
• Med/Surg Neuro unit serving patients with CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries
• Additional patient population includes pre/post thoracic surgery and complex gastrointestinal, respiratory, and surgical cases
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:00–06:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required within the hospital and to nearby affiliate facilities — applies to all travelers
• No on-call responsibilities
• Charting via Cerner (experience required)
• Average daily census of 32 patients

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Active BLS (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Telemetry and remote cardiac monitoring experience required
• Experience with rapid response teams required
• Colostomy care and feeding tube management experience required
• IV therapy skills required: accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Medication experience required: Heparin, Insulin, and PCA
• Respiratory skills required: chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management, pre/post thoracic surgery care, and oxygen delivery systems
• Surgical drain experience required
• Wound care and wound vac experience required
• Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) experience required
• Isolation precautions knowledge required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Level II Trauma experience preferred
• SSN and DOB required for consideration

Additional Information

• Local candidates are accepted with no radius requirement
• Travel pairs are not accepted
• Former permanent or PRN employees of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
• Candidates must be prepared to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• RTO of up to 5 days is generally accommodated; requests exceeding 5 days require facility approval
• Royal blue scrubs required
• Free parking is available with a permit obtained during orientation
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
• Teaching hospital status — preferred experience in academic teaching environments
