Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position requiring strip-reading proficiency and ACLS certification, working 12-hour night shifts at an acute care hospital in West Virginia.
Details
- 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit (semi-private and private rooms) in an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes post-heart cath, TR bands, CHF, COPD, post-pacer placement, arrhythmias, and patients awaiting CABG consult
- Average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with the ability to flex up to 1:6
- RNs are required to titrate Heparin drips; Cardizem and Amiodarone are set-rate only; occasional Lasix or Bumex titration
- Unit has monitor techs who also serve as the central monitor station for the entire North Tower; RNs must independently read telemetry strips
- PCTs are available for ADLs, blood glucose checks, and EKGs, with a goal ratio of 1:8 (may flex higher depending on staffing)
- Occasional high-flow oxygen, BiPAP, and CPAP used for supportive therapy only
- Charting performed in Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730); self-scheduling available with block scheduling accommodated based on unit needs
- Every other weekend required for travelers; night weekend shifts fall on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday
- Travelers are worked into the float rotation and may be floated anywhere in the hospital, including stepdown or ICU (rare), with assignments limited to within their skillset
- Charge Nurse coverage is available 24/7; travelers comfortable with charge responsibilities may be considered for the night charge role
Requirements
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- Current AHA BLS and AHA ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Ability to independently read cardiac telemetry strips required
- Comfort and experience with cardiac patient populations, including post-cath, arrhythmias, CHF, and COPD
- Ability to perform EKGs independently when PCT support is unavailable
- Valid driver's license copy required for consideration
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of 1 day of computer/Epic training followed by 1 day of floor shadowing with a preceptor, with independent practice beginning on day 3
- RNs are expected to manage their own admissions and discharges; the unit averages 8–12 discharges and 8–12 admissions per day
- Unit has a strong team culture with staff supporting one another; a unit clerk is also available
- Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets are permitted but hoodies and sweat jackets are not allowed
- Holiday coverage may be required if the needs of the unit call for traveler participation
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
- First-time travelers are welcome — the unit is experienced with new grads and has a strong teaching culture
