Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at an acute care hospital, requiring charge RN experience and comfort with a 1:6 patient ratio with PCU-level patients.
Details
- Work in the Med/Surg Tele unit of a 210-bed acute care hospital
- Patient population typically requires PCU level of care
- Patient ratio of 1:6 required
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend requirement
- Floating within scope of practice is required
- Block scheduling is not available
- Charting is performed in Meditech
- Free parking is available in any unrestricted space
Requirements
- Active FL or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Charge RN experience is required for consideration
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Experience and comfort with a 1:6 patient ratio, including PCU-level patients
- Must reside more than 30 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
- Orthopedic and total joint replacement nursing experience is strongly preferred
Additional Information
- Provides Med/Surg Tele nursing care to patients requiring PCU-level interventions, including orthopedic and total joint replacement cases
- Clinical orientation consists of a mandatory 5-shift week (approximately 36–40 hours) during the first week
- Approximately 4 hours of online modules must be completed prior to the start date
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 1 holiday; if 3 holidays fall within the assignment, travelers must work 1 holiday eve and 2 holidays
- All time-off and scheduling requests should be disclosed upfront at the time of consideration
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable

Most of the physicians (around 80%) are pleasant and collaborative, which makes day-to-day interactions smoother. The absence of trauma cases can also contribute to a more predictable and less high-intensity workflow.
Cons
Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
