Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position at a large academic Level I Trauma hospital, with expertise in mechanical ventilation and acute/chronic respiratory care.

Details

  • Short-term acute care teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center with 1,259 staffed beds
  • Candidates will float between ICU and general floor settings based on facility needs
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
  • Every third weekend rotation required
  • Holiday coverage is expected
  • Uses Epic EMR; experience required
  • Block scheduling is not available

Requirements

  • Active RRT credential required
  • Current BLS (BCLS) certification required
  • Valid Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required at time of consideration; pending license may be accepted for Illinois-licensed candidates
  • Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Proficiency in airway management including endotracheal tube management, extubation, tracheostomy care, and suctioning techniques
  • Experience with ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Experience administering inhaled medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Nitric Oxide (iNO), Inhaled Flolan, Racemic Epinephrine, and others
  • Experience with nebulizer delivery systems including handheld, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic
  • ABG interpretation skills required
  • Ability to walk relatively long distances across a large hospital campus
  • Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
  • License required if applicable

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Provide respiratory care to patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases across ICU and floor settings
  • Comfortable managing mechanically ventilated patients is essential for this role
  • This is an academic teaching hospital; candidates may occasionally be asked to precept respiratory therapy students
  • Active AARC membership and a bachelor's degree (or active pursuit of one) in any field are strongly preferred
  • Medium to dark gray scrubs are required
  • Travelers may stay for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required; former permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
  • Parking passes are available for purchase on a monthly basis; various lots and garages are accessible near the facility
