Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Comprehensive Stroke Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Neuro ICU setting within a Comprehensive Stroke Center
- Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
- Standard patient ratio is 2:1, with potential flex to 3:1 during high census periods
- Average daily census of 11–12 patients
- 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12)
- Every other weekend required
- Float requirement applies
- No on-call responsibilities
- Specialized equipment in use includes EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino ICP monitor, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
- EMR: Epic; also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
- 13-week contract with the possibility of extension
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required — general ICU experience alone will not be considered
- Strong neuro critical care background required
- Required skills: mechanical ventilation, IV start, neuro intensive care, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD management, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, care of ventilated patients, isolation precautions/PPE, and lumbar drain experience
- Arterial line management experience preferred
- Must be comfortable with 3:1 patient ratios during high census
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
Additional Information
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 shifts (days or nights)
- Scrub colors: navy blue and white
- Local candidates are accepted
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite — any call-offs or additional time off may result in contract cancellation
