Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a comprehensive stroke center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and strong neurological critical care skills.

Details

• Neuro ICU setting within a Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents, carotid endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis
• Drains in use include EVDs, lumbar drains, hemovacs, and Camino ICP monitoring
• Specialized equipment includes EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
• EMR: Epic (also uses Pyxis and SBAR)
• Patient ratio is 2:1, with the possibility of flexing to 3:1 during high census periods
• Average daily census of 11–12 patients
• 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12 schedule)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required
• No on-call requirement
• Local candidates are accepted

Requirements

• Active RN license in NC or a compact state license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required — strong neuro critical care background, not general ICU
• Proficiency in ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
• Experience with IV starts, continuous IV sedation, and blood product administration
• Experience with central line care/management and arterial line management (preferred)
• Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Experience with ICP monitoring, external ventricular drains (EVDs), and lumbar drains
• Experience with CVA/acute stroke management and post-neurosurgery management
• Proficiency with isolation precautions and PPE
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start

Additional Information

• This is a Neuro ICU role focused on neurological and neurosurgical critical care — candidates without a strong neuro critical care background will not be considered
• Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 days or 2 nights)
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
• RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site — call-offs or additional time off requests may result in contract cancellation
• First-time travelers will not be accepted for this position
