Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Step-Down/Telemetry position requiring ventilator experience, Epic proficiency, and a valid OH or compact RN license.
Details
- Step-down unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes COPD, CHF, pneumonia, flu, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), and post-COVID patients
- Manages telemetry monitoring, drips (insulin, heparin, Cardizem, and others), trach patients, vents, BiPAPs, and high-oxygen requirements — no orally intubated patients
- Respiratory therapists are available on the unit to support vent and trach care
- Targeted patient ratios are 1:4, but may be up to 1:5–6
- Unit is trialing a team nursing model in which two nurses and a PCT partner together to care for a patient group; nurses may function in either team or primary nursing depending on the status of the trial
- Uses Epic EMR
- Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- 36- or 48-hour contract weeks available
- Travelers are first to float at the health system's discretion, within medically appropriate specialty clusters; floating may include the main campus (Dayton), south campus (Centerville, under 10 miles), and north campus (Englewood, under 15 miles)
- Every other weekend and holiday availability required
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1.5 years of nursing experience
- Step-down (SD) or PCU experience required — ICU experience does not substitute for SD/PCU experience at this facility
- Demonstrated 1:5 ratio experience in SD or PCU must be reflected in work history
- Ventilator experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must be able to read and interpret cardiac rhythm strips
- Level 1 or 2 trauma center experience preferred
- Travel nursing experience preferred
Additional Information
- Must pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment prior to starting the assignment
- Nurses will be fitted for an N95 respirator prior to working on the unit unless a PAPR is offered or needed
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Any RTO requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration — no RTO will be added after an offer is extended; approval is at the manager's discretion
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
