Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/ED Transitional Care Unit position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and cardiac telemetry experience.
Details
- Work in an ED Transitional Care Unit (TCU), a 16-bed admission unit where med/surg or PCU-level patients are held awaiting inpatient bed assignment
- Inpatient orders are carried out and admission databases are completed in preparation for inpatient transfer
- Patient ratio is 1:5, contingent on hospital capacity and ED volume
- Day shift schedule: 3x12s, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday must be worked per 13-week contract
- Floating within skillset is required
- Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Prior experience in cardiac telemetry, ER holding, or PCU required
- Cardiac monitoring skills required, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and emergency response
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required, including blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, port access/management, and PICC line management
- Respiratory support experience required, including nasal cannula/oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management, and chest tube management
- Medication management experience required, including heparin protocol, cardiac/vasoactive drips (non-titrating), IV insulin protocol (titrating), and PCA
- Experience with rapid response and code teams, and maintaining isolation precautions required
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

- 703-bed private, not-for-profit general acute care hospital located in Roanoke, VA
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Local candidates are accepted for this position
