Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Comprehensive Stroke Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Neuro ICU experience and active NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Neuro ICU setting within a Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Patient population includes ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes (SAH), SDH, craniotomies, carotid stents and endarterectomies, aneurysm coiling/clipping, seizures, depth electrodes, and myasthenia gravis — stroke patients represent the largest portion of the census
• Drains in use include EVDs, lumbar drains, hemovacs, and Camino ICP monitoring
• Specialized equipment includes EVD, Lumbar Drains, Camino, LICOX, NICOM, and Arctic Sun
• EMR system: Epic (also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework)
• Patient ratio is 2:1, with potential flex to 3:1 during high census
• Average daily census is 11–12 patients
• 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15 (3x12)
• Every other weekend required
• No on-call requirements
• Floating is required
• 13-week contract with the possibility of extension

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of Neuro ICU experience required — general ICU experience alone does not qualify
• Strong neuro critical care background required
• Required skills: ventilator management, IV start, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, blood product administration, central line care/management, continuous IV sedation, CVA/acute stroke management, EVD management, ICP monitoring, post-neurosurgery management, care of ventilated patients, isolation precautions/PPE, and lumbar drain experience
• Arterial line management experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
• Orientation consists of 24 hours over 2 days or 2 nights
• Scrub color requirement: navy blue and white
• Local candidates are accepted
• No RTO (time off) is permitted after booking — call-offs or additional time off requests may result in contract cancellation
