Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position at a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring telemetry and arterial line competency.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma center
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown department with 40 beds and an average daily census of 24
- Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, post-stent, post-pacemaker placement, and renal failure diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both days and nights
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available with a 1:12 ratio
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- High-flow oxygen equipment in use on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts (1830ā0630)
- Every other weekend required
- EMR: Epic
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Competency with arterial lines required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (verified by driver's license)
Additional Information
- Candidates may not have been directly employed full time, part time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year; those employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- RNs must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; failure to pass results in contract termination
- Unit-specific orientation is 1 day
- Floating may be required to Med/Surg or to ICU to cover PCU-acuity patients
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and carries an assignment
- Unit is equipped with overhead lifts (available in half the rooms), portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
- Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue
- A minimum of 2 holidays that fall within the contract period are required
- If placed on call and called back in, the candidate must be able to arrive on-site within 30 minutes
- Blocked scheduling is not approved unless it is weekends only; duo/shared-schedule arrangements are not accepted
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Unit serves a culturally diverse patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somali communities
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
- The unit prioritizes patient experience scores, responsiveness, and communication about medications; candidates should be flexible, adaptable, and receptive to feedback
