Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma Center in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/stepdown experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) in a Level I Trauma Center
- 18-bed unit caring for patients requiring intermediate care, downgraded CVICU patients, and those supporting the thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart programs
- Common diagnoses include cath lab cases, CVAs, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
- RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other BP management medications
- Remote tele techs available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Tele monitoring includes both hardwired and tele box capabilities
- Respiratory therapy is in-house 24/7; RT equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
- Hospitalist and intensivist are in-house 24/7; cardiology is on call after hours
- Charge nurse is present on each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment
- Patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts; shift times are 0630–1900 and 1830–0700
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to same-level and lower-acuity units
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac/stepdown patient population required
- Experience titrating vasoactive and cardiac drips required
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation is tailored to individual experience, typically 1–2 shifts on the unit, with a 12-hour orientation period total
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure results in contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
- RTO must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities will be considered
