Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PACU position at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring critical care experience and Epic proficiency.

- 38-bay PACU unit operating 24/7 within a short-term acute care, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital
- Recovers a wide variety of acute post-operative patients including neurosurgery, ENT, plastics, orthopedics, thoracic, vascular, trauma, general, colorectal, GYN, urological, electrophysiology, interventional radiology, and transplant cases — open heart surgeries and liver transplants are not recovered on this unit
- Patient population includes adults, occasional adolescents, and geriatric patients
- Average daily census of 70–90 patients across 38 patient bays
- Charting is done in Epic; experience is required
- Schedule is 4x10-hour day shifts, Monday–Friday, with rotating start times as needed (shift approx. 5:30 AM–4:00 PM)
- No weekend or on-call requirements
- Floating is limited to PACU or PreOp units only
- Block scheduling is not available
Requirements
- Active MO RN license or Compact RN license valid in Missouri required; pending IL license candidates may be considered with appropriate notation
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Phase I) nursing experience required
- Critical care experience required, as patients may require artificial airways, invasive monitoring (including ICP), transfusions, and vasoactive medications
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
- Required clinical skills include: dysrhythmia recognition and management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, IV insertion, IV vasopressor administration, ICP monitoring, and care of ventilated patients
- Inpatient and Level I Trauma Center experience required
Additional Information
- The unit has a dedicated PCT and transport team to support nursing staff
- Night shift nurses may be expected to learn pre-operative patient workup in addition to recovery duties
- Scrub color required is navy blue
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of orientation
- Travelers may remain at this health system for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break in service is required before returning
- Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
