Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Floor position at a Level I Trauma academic medical center in West Virginia, requiring telemetry strip reading and night shift availability on a 13-week contract.
Details
- Work on 7 West, a combined Stepdown and Medical-Surgical floor unit with 32 total beds (12 Stepdown, 20 Floor)
- Patient population includes chest pain, COPD, altered mental status, pneumonia, UTI, abdominal pain, overflow from various services, and GIP hospice patients
- Stepdown patient ratio is 1:3; Floor patient ratio is 1:4–6
- Stepdown patients may require titration of drips; floor patients receive PCAs, heparin, and similar set-rate infusions
- Unit is telemetry-enabled; RNs must be able to read telemetry strips in conjunction with dedicated monitor techs
- Respiratory therapy manages ventilator and airway equipment (CPAP, BiPAP) as needed
- EMR: Epic
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Scheduled shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights
- Two weekends per schedule required
- Holidays worked per the permanent staff holiday schedule
- Floating required to any floor or stepdown unit within the facility
- Level I Trauma, acute care hospital setting
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- Valid driver's license required for consideration; address must reflect residence more than 50 miles from the facility
- BSN not required
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to a mixed stepdown and medical-surgical patient population, including titration of drips in the stepdown setting
- Unit is supported by a dedicated free charge nurse and an always-available house supervisor, plus 4 nurse aides when fully staffed
- Royal blue scrubs required
- COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests are accepted but subject to review and approval
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before being considered
- Candidates who have worked within the WVU system for a cumulative total of one year must also take a 2-year break before returning
- 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference (from a perm facility if applicable within the last 12 months) and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference
- A skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
