Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring at least 1 year of experience and the ability to rotate between day and night shifts.

Details

• Acute care Med/Surg unit with 48 beds
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and fall/weakness-related cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:5–7 on days and 1:6–8 on nights
• PCT support with a ratio of approximately 1:10–12; PCT duties include vitals, BGMs, EKGs, heart monitor application, bathing, feeding, toileting, and turning/positioning
• RNs may titrate drips (heparin, bumex, lasix); cardiac drip titration is not required
• Respiratory therapy manages all RT equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow O2; RNs are only responsible for monitoring
• A monitor tech on Level 5 reads and monitors telemetry for all patients; RNs are not expected to independently interpret tele strips
• Charting is done in Epic
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM / 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg Tele, or IMC units for lower acuity patients
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Two references required: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required
• Copies of all certifications required

Additional Information

• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Orientation consists of 1 day with an educator/computer system training and 1 day with a preceptor
• Schedule is managed by the unit manager; self-scheduling and block scheduling are not available — travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent schedule
• Rotating shift schedules are spread across weeks so day and night shifts are not mixed within the same week; typically 2 weeks of days followed by 2 weeks of nights
• RNs may be asked to participate in the holiday rotation
• RN scrub color is navy blue
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers are not permitted to work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
