Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Inpatient) position at an acute care hospital in New Mexico, requiring at least 3 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to titrate drips.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with a 26-bed Med/Surg unit
- Patient population includes medical, surgical, and PCU-level patients; no ICU on-site — critical patients are transferred to a higher-level facility
- Nurses may be called upon to rotate into the PCU area, where patients can be acutely ill and on drips or invasive monitors
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5
- CNAs are available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio, handling vitals, ADLs, I/Os, transfers, transports, and showers; nurses are responsible for AccuChecks
- Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7, managing all respiratory equipment including continuous BiPAP/CPAP
- Titratable drips used include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in place
- Telemetry monitoring is performed using Mindray cardiac monitors; no dedicated monitor techs — nurses must read and interpret telemetry independently
- Charting is done in TruBridge (Evident/CPSI)
- 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Every other weekend required
- No call or standby requirement
- No floating requirement for RNs
Requirements
- Active NM RN license or valid Compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience required
- PCU or stepdown experience preferred
- Ability to titrate drips required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
- LTAC experience is a plus
- Ability to maintain intubation is a plus
Additional Information
- Required online modules must be completed prior to starting on the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete and will be assigned via email before the start of the assignment
- Unit orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor, depending on individual needs
- Travelers are not typically asked to serve in a charge nurse role; the charge nurse carries a lighter patient assignment
- Scheduling is based on 12-hour day shifts; travelers are asked to be flexible to help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule — block scheduling is not guaranteed
- Holiday rotation coverage may be required
- Navy blue scrubs required
- This small community hospital has a broad clinical scope and is currently working toward achieving Level IV Trauma designation
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
