Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Inpatient unit requiring at least 3 years of MS-Tele experience, with the ability to manage drips and interpret telemetry strips.

Details

• Acute care inpatient setting in a small but capable community hospital currently working toward Level IV trauma designation
• Med/Surg unit with PCU crossover — nurses may be called upon to work in the PCU area within the same department, where patients can be acutely ill and on drips or invasive monitors
• 26-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3–5
• CNA support on unit at a 1:8 ratio, assisting with vitals, ADLs, I/Os, patient transfers, transports, and showers
• Respiratory therapy available in-house 24/7; unit-designated RT during the day, with one RT in-house overnight
• Common diagnoses include Medical/Surgical and PCU-level cases
• Titratable drips include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in use
• Telemetry monitoring using Mindray cardiac monitors; must be able to read and interpret tele strips independently
• Charting system: TruBridge (Evident/CPSI)
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation may be required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Travelers are expected to be flexible with scheduling to help fill gaps; block scheduling is not guaranteed
• No floating requirement for RNs

Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS-Tele) experience required
• Ability to titrate drips (insulin, amiodarone, vasopressors) required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• PCU or Step-Down experience preferred
• LTAC experience is a plus
• Ability to manage patients requiring bipap/cpap and invasive monitoring preferred
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Mandatory facility modules must be completed prior to working the floor; modules are estimated to take approximately 20 hours and are completed before the assignment starts
• 1–2 day unit orientation with a preceptor, depending on individual needs
• Charge nurses take a lesser patient assignment; travelers are not typically asked to serve in a charge role
• Navy blue scrubs required
