Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) Stepdown position at a Level 1 Trauma facility in Nebraska, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac stepdown experience and night shift availability.
Details
- Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU 5E) in an acute care, Level 1 Trauma hospital setting
- 18-bed unit supporting a thoracic program, electrophysiology (EP), cath lab, and structural heart programs
- Patient population includes intermediate care patients, downgraded CVICU patients, and those with diagnoses such as cath lab recovery, CVA, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and other cardiac and vascular conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours post-op
- RNs are required to titrate drips including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
- Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
- Remote telemetry techs available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has both hardwired and telemetry box capabilities
- Charge nurse present each shift; charge nurse rarely takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio
- Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to same and lower acuity levels
- Schedule managed by the unit manager; no block or self-scheduling
- EMR: Epic
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of experience with cardiac stepdown or intermediate cardiac care patient population
- Minimum 2 years of overall RN experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration — used to verify permanent residence outside the 50-mile radius
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to verify eligibility
- Candidates who are currently or have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on the Friday of orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass; failure to pass may result to contract termination
- Unit-specific orientation is tailored to the candidate's experience level, typically 1–2 shifts
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove artificial nails will result in contract termination
- RTO requests (7 days or fewer per 13-week contract) must be provided upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after that point
