Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring drip titration skills, ACLS certification, and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips on a respiratory-focused unit.

Details

• Work setting is an acute care hospital telemetry unit (MS/Tele 7S) with 28 beds
• Respiratory-focused unit with cardiac patient population including post-cath, AMI, post-PCI, post-op lung surgery (after CCU), respiratory failure, chest tubes, pacemakers, and CR bands — stepdown patients are not included
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Patient ratio is 1:5
• Philips monitors are used; RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
• CPAP and BiPap present on unit; managed by Respiratory Therapy
• EMR is Epic
• 12-hour shifts, days (7a–7:30p) and nights (7p–7:30a); this position is nights
• Every-other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday, days and nights)
• Holiday rotation with permanent staff
• Float requirement to other Med/Surg and Tele units
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Proficiency in drip titration is required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Copies of all certifications required for consideration
• Two references required for consideration: one supervisor reference and one peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN); if the candidate worked a permanent position in the last 12 months, one supervisor reference must be from that facility
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
• Work history for the past 7 years (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days required for consideration

Additional Information

• Royal blue scrubs required
• Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7; day charge does not take a patient assignment, but night charge does
• Unit is in a phased opening: Phase 1 includes a nurse aide on day shift for up to 10 patients; no aide on night shift — at night, 3 nurses cover 10 patients with the charge nurse stepping in to assist with staffing
• EKG testing is required for this unit and is pass/fail
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from this facility to be eligible for the travel position
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being eligible to return
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
• Candidates may only be submitted to one WVU facility at a time
