Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift travel contract at a small teaching hospital in Maine, requiring a ME or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of ED experience.
Details
- Work setting is an 89-bed teaching hospital with an 11-bed Emergency Department, including 3 trauma bays, 1 behavioral seclusion room, and 2 negative pressure rooms
- Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics, including general ED, trauma, stroke, STEMI, and behavioral health cases
- RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4, variable based on patient acuity
- Charting system is FirstNet
- Schedule is 12-hour night shifts, 7P–7A, 36 hours per week
- Weekend rotation is every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- No floating required
- Holiday coverage required on an as-needed basis
Requirements
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- TNCC and NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of ED nursing experience
- Teaching hospital or trauma ED experience preferred
- Proficiency with EKGs, IV starts, TNKase administration, nebulizer treatments, BiPAP initiation, suture removal, casting assistance, and vent management
- Two professional references within the past year required, with at least one from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge nurse (peer references not accepted)
- Full SSN, Driver's License, and copies of all certifications required for consideration
- Flu vaccination required for employment eligibility
- No previous permanent employment at any Northern Light Health Hospital
- Permanent address must be 100+ miles south/southwest of Bangor, ME

- Interviews conducted via Simpli.fi
- Orientation consists of two days of hospital orientation (including time in the ED) followed by one day with a preceptor
- Unit support includes an ED provider, mid-level provider (hours vary), hospitalist (24/7), house supervisor, receptionist (24/7), ED techs, and a critical care transport team; RT is available on day shift and on-call for unstable patients at night
- Security is on-site 24/7; staff from all units respond to patient escalations as needed
- Scrub color is open — any professional color; hospital scrubs are available but not required
- Onsite locker room, changing room, gym, and free parking available
- Described as a welcoming community and work environment
- All requested time off must be submitted at the time of profile consideration
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Charge nurse experience is a plus — candidates should be prepared to discuss CRN background
- Medical exemptions for the flu vaccine are accepted on a case-by-case basis and require a minimum of 2 weeks for review
