Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology position requiring active chemotherapy certification and a minimum of 1 year of oncology and PCU experience.

Details

  • Works in a mixed PCU, Med-Surg, and Oncology unit at a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital
  • 28-bed unit serving adult oncology and trauma patient populations
  • Common diagnoses include oncology (diagnosis through remission) and trauma
  • PCU nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on days and 1:5-6 on nights; Med-Surg ratio is 1:5
  • Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may be required to titrate insulin and cardizem
  • Competencies in ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000) are utilized on this unit
  • EMR: Epic (experience within the last 6 months is noted during orientation planning)
  • IV pump used: Alaris
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • Every other weekend requirement
  • Self-scheduling unit
  • Float required to same level of care (Med-Surg and PCU units)

Requirements

  • Active NE state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS, and ONS/ONCC chemotherapy certification
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology and PCU experience required
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
  • Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Driver's license required for consideration

Additional Information

  • A pass/fail, open-book skills exam is administered on the first Friday of orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the assignment
  • Orientation is approximately 2 days (12 hours)
  • Unit support includes nursing assistants, charge nurses, PT/OT, RN case managers, social workers, an educator, and a dietician
  • Scrub color: Navy blue
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination
  • RTO must be disclosed upfront; 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract; no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
