Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ER Holding Unit position requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and a current CA RN license, working night shifts in a complex, multi-campus health system.
Details
- ER Holding Unit position within a large academic health system — patients are ED inpatients held in the ER but may include ICU-level acuity
- Complex patient population including cardiac, LVAD, pulmonary hypertension, cancer, respiratory, surgical, and transplant cases
- Floating required across multiple campuses (La Jolla and Hillcrest primarily; system-wide ICU units including Hillcrest, Jacobs, Thornton, and East Campus based on census)
- Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:00
- EMR: Epic (Cerner experience also required)
- Procedures include A-lines, phlebotomy, PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilator management, telemetry, and IV starts
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- A-lines and phlebotomy experience required (hard stop)
- Experience with PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilators, telemetry, and IV starts required
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Cerner EMR experience required
- At least one supervisory/manager reference from within the past year from a relevant unit is required
- Previous staff must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible to return as a traveler
Additional Information
- Provides ICU-level nursing care to ED inpatients across a variety of complex diagnoses
- Candidates must pass a Pass/Fail EKG exam (up to 3 attempts allowed)
- No blocked scheduling or self-scheduling
- No RTO within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; RTO requests must be submitted upfront and cannot be changed after submission
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate
- First-time travelers should check with their recruiter regarding eligibility for this position
- Candidates who have previously been employed by the health system must be approved prior to assignment
