Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Labor & Delivery float position at a Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and AWHONN certification.
Details
- Work setting is a 632-bed short-term acute care Magnet-designated, Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital serving as a regional referral center for high-risk obstetric care
- The L&D unit features 12 LDRs, 3 ORs, 6 OB triage beds, and 8 OB Special Care beds
- The Mother Baby Center consists of 34 postpartum rooms with Baby Friendly Recognition
- Float coverage required between L&D, Mother Baby Center (MBC), and OB Special Care Unit (OBSCU) based on census needs
- AWHONN staffing model is utilized
- Shifts available: Days 7:00–19:30 and Nights 19:00–7:30 (3x12-hour shifts); shift assignment is variable and based on staffing needs, not alternating
- 3 weekends required per 4-week schedule
- No on-call requirements
- Charting is done in Epic; training provided during orientation
Requirements
- Active Michigan RN license required (compact license not accepted; MI does not participate in the Nurse Licensure Compact)
- Pending MI RN license accepted, but must be active by start date
- Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and AWHONN (Intermediate or Advanced)
- AHA-issued certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required
- Antepartum experience required
- Experience in a facility with 100–200 births per month required
- Level 1 Trauma setting experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Copies of certifications and State Board of Nursing/NURSYS license verification required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide labor and delivery, postpartum, and OB special care nursing across multiple units as census demands
- Pre-start modules are required and completed prior to the first day; module content varies by specialty
- Former core staff members must have been separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler (verified through HR prior to consideration)
- RTO must be submitted at the time of profile submission; RTO will not be approved after the contract is signed, with a maximum of 5 days per assignment
- Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travel candidates; no radius restriction applies
