Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ER Holding Unit position requiring ICU experience, a valid CA RN license, and proficiency with arterial lines and phlebotomy.

Details

  • Work setting is a hospital ER Holding Unit that manages ICU-level patients within the emergency department
  • Patient population includes ICU-acuity ED inpatients with conditions such as cardiac, LVAD, pulmonary hypertension, cancer, respiratory, surgical, and transplant diagnoses
  • Floating is required across multiple system campuses including La Jolla, Hillcrest, Jacobs, Thornton, and East Campus ICU units as census permits
  • Procedures performed include arterial lines (A-lines), phlebotomy, PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilator management, telemetry monitoring, and IV insertion
  • EMR system: Epic (Cerner experience also required)
  • Schedule: Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) on a weekend block schedule
  • No blocked or self-scheduling allowed

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required prior to consideration
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
  • Arterial line and phlebotomy skills are a hard requirement
  • Experience with PICC lines, chest tubes, ventilators, telemetry, and IV starts required
  • Epic and Cerner EMR experience required
  • At least one supervisory, director, or manager reference from within the past year on the relevant unit is required
  • A second reference from within the past 2 years (charge nurse, co-worker, or educator accepted) is required

Additional Information

  • Candidates who have previously been employed by this health system must receive facility approval prior to starting the assignment; prior employment should be disclosed at time of consideration
  • Must have been separated from this health system for at least 1 year to return as a traveler
  • A pass/fail EKG exam is required (up to 3 attempts allowed)
  • No RTO (time off requests) permitted within the first 2 weeks of the assignment; any RTO must be submitted upfront and cannot be changed after submission
  • Local candidates are accepted at the same rate — no radius restriction applies
