Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring active ACLS, BLS, and ONS/ONCC certifications with at least 1 year of oncology and PCU experience.
Details
- Acute care stepdown unit specializing in PCU, Oncology, and Med/Surg patient populations
- 28-bed unit caring for adult oncology and trauma PCU patients
- Staffing ratios: 1:4 (PCU, days), 1:5 (Med/Surg, days), and 1:5–6 (nights)
- Common drips include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix; RNs may titrate insulin and cardizem drips
- Competencies utilized include ventilator management and hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000)
- EMR: Epic (recent Epic experience within 6 months is noted during orientation planning)
- IV pumps: Alaris
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every other weekend required
- Self-scheduling unit
- Floating required to same level of care (Med/Surg and PCU units)
Requirements
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (must be active, not pending): ACLS, BLS (AHA), and ONS/ONCC
- Minimum 1 year of oncology and PCU nursing experience required
- BSN not required
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify)
- Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Chemotherapy certification is preferred but not required
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Orientation consists of 2 days (approximately 12 hours); includes a pass/fail open-book exam on skills covered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the assignment
- Nursing assistant support, charge nurse, and additional interdisciplinary support (PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician) available on the unit
- Scrub color: navy blue
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result to contract termination
- RTO must be disclosed upfront; 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract — no additional RTO will be approved after consideration
- Candidates who were previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms at CommonSpirit facilities may be considered
