Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-acuity Med/Surg Telemetry position requiring strong telemetry experience, Rapid Response team background, and total joints experience for a 13-week night shift contract.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting with 210 staffed beds
- Mixed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with high-acuity patient population
- Patient ratio of 1:6
- Telemetry monitoring with strong telemetry experience required
- Rapid Response team involvement
- Total joints patient care
- Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required within scope of practice
- Block scheduling is not available
- Charting via Meditech
- Free parking on-site
Requirements
- Active FL RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Strong telemetry experience required
- Rapid Response team experience required
- Total joints nursing experience required
- Must reside more than 30 miles from the facility to be eligible
Additional Information
- Clinical orientation requires availability for a mandatory 5-shift orientation week (approximately 36–40 hours)
- Online modules must be completed prior to start date (plan for at least 4 hours)
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable
- Holiday coverage is required: if 1–2 holidays fall within the assignment, traveler must work 1 holiday eve and 1 holiday; if 3 holidays fall within the assignment, traveler must work 1 holiday eve and 2 holidays
- No RTO permitted during the first or last week of the assignment
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position

Most of the physicians (around 80%) are pleasant and collaborative, which makes day-to-day interactions smoother. The absence of trauma cases can also contribute to a more predictable and less high-intensity workflow.
Cons
Management tends to micromanage, which can impact autonomy. Additionally, when case volume is low, staff may be sent home early, making it difficult to consistently complete scheduled hours. Supplies are tightly controlled through the PICS system, which can sometimes slow down workflow.
