Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Labor & Delivery position requiring active CA licensure and Advanced Fetal Monitoring certification.

Details

• Acute care hospital Labor & Delivery unit (LDRP)
• Patient population includes 32 weeks gestation and above; rarely sees GYN clean patient overflow
• Staffing ratios follow ACOG and California guidelines: 1:3 or 1:4 couplets
• Level 2 NICU on site staffed by Stanford nurses, who attend each delivery
• EMR: Cerner PowerChart Maternity and Cerner Fetal Links for fetal heart monitoring (FHM)
• 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat nights and Sat/Sun days)
• Floating to postpartum (PP) in rotation with permanent staff
• On-call is not required but is optional; if placed on call, must be within 20 minutes of the facility for 4-hour increments during shift — a sleep room is available on site
• OB techs function as nurse aides when no active cases
• Charge nurse on unit handles triage
• Anesthesia available 24/7 (typically in-house; may be up to 20 minutes away); in-house during active labor; approximately 90% of patients elect for epidural
• Respiratory therapy (RT) available 24/7; pharmacy available until 10:30 PM with satellite service after hours
• No IV team on unit

Requirements

• Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
• Required certifications (all must be active; pending not accepted): BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• 3-shift floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts on L&D and 1 shift on mother-baby (MB)
• Unit uses the Hugs and Kisses infant security system; not a locked unit
• LDRP rooms are newly renovated; PP rooms are older
• Lactation nurses on staff during day shifts; lactation care plans are written on whiteboard in patient rooms
• Patient population is predominantly higher socioeconomic status with a median maternal age of 37; high Mandarin-speaking volume with translation services available via Vocera phones
• All nursing staff assist with triage and NST
• Holiday rotation with staff: one out of every three major holidays required
• Ceil blue scrubs are provided by the facility
• Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
