Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position at a Critical Access Hospital, requiring night shift availability and certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
Details
- Acute care Med/Surg unit in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) setting
- 20-bed unit serving a general medical-surgical patient population including falls, CHF, bowel obstruction, A-fib, and swingbed patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- MEDITECH EMR used on this unit
- Nurses are responsible for reading and documenting their own telemetry strips each shift using Mindray monitors; no monitor techs on unit
- RNs manage respiratory equipment (Hamilton C1 ventilator, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow) and administer respiratory treatments; no RT department on unit
- RNs are required to titrate drips including insulin, heparin, and Levophed; set-rate drips include amiodarone
- 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every 3rd weekend requirement (or more if desired)
- Float to the ER as needed; travelers are not the first to float but flexibility is appreciated
- No on-call requirements
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Experience in a Critical Access Hospital setting is appreciated
- Proficiency in core nursing skills including assessments, infusion pumps, and medication administration
- ER experience preferred
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Critical Access Hospital environment where staff work collaboratively across departments and are expected to be comfortable in a variety of clinical situations
- CNAs and PCTs are present on the unit and assist with vital signs, I&O charting, and ADLs
- Charge nurse coverage is available 24/7; the charge nurse does not take a patient assignment and also covers the ER; a nursing supervisor is available Monday–Friday
- Orientation consists of 3–6 shifts depending on staff availability
- Schedule is manager-managed and posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling may be available depending on staffing needs
- Holiday coverage is included in the rotation schedule and is appreciated
- No specific scrub color requirement
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates may not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
