Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry position requiring at least 2 years of experience and post-procedural cardiac skills, working nights across two pooled telemetry floors.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting across two pooled telemetry floors (3rd and 7th) with a combined capacity of 55 beds (20 on 3rd floor, 35 on 7th floor)
- 3rd Floor focus: cardiac patients including post-op open heart, TAVRs, ablations, post-cath, pacemakers, and medical telemetry
- 7th Floor focus: general telemetry including CHF, sepsis, electrolyte imbalances, post-stroke, and post-procedural overflow
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4; CNA support available (3 CNAs on 3rd floor, 5 CNAs on 7th floor at a 1:8 CNA-to-patient ratio)
- RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips twice per shift; remote tele techs are located on the 3rd floor
- RNs may be required to titrate Heparin and Insulin drips; set-rate drips include cardiac GTT, amiodarone, Cardizem, dopamine, and dobutamine — insulin titration training provided if needed
- Respiratory therapy (RT) is available on each floor and manages high-flow, BiPAP, and CPAP; RNs may be asked to assist RT as needed
- Charting is done in Epic; experience preferred
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule; nights cover Friday and Saturday
- Travelers are first to float and may be floated to any MS, MS-Tele, or Tele unit within the hospital or to sister facilities in Meridian and Nampa
- No on-call or standby requirement; floating is more common
Requirements
- Active Idaho RN license or Compact RN license required (must be active, not pending)
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required (all must be active — pending certifications not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Post-procedural cardiac experience required (e.g., cath lab, ablations, open heart)
- Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry rhythms
- PCU and stepdown experience preferred
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred but not required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Travelers rotate between the 3rd and 7th floor telemetry units, which pool their staffing together to cover needs
- Orientation consists of 2 shifts — one on the 3rd floor and one on the 7th floor
- Schedule is built out 6 weeks at a time; the scheduler works with travelers to group shifts, particularly for night shift, though block scheduling is not guaranteed and a maximum of 5 consecutive shifts apply
- No block scheduling or special scheduling requests will be accepted
- Holiday coverage may be required, though travelers are not expected to work every holiday
- Any color scrubs are permitted
- Charge nurses are on each unit and do not take patient assignments unless necessary; crisis and resource nurses are available in-house
- Former permanent employees of this facility must have been away for at least one year before being considered for a travel assignment
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
- Traveler-friendly environment where leadership treats travelers like permanent staff; high rate of traveler extensions
