Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position in a high-acuity Birth Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and active Epic proficiency.

Details

• Work in a high-acuity Birth Center with 34 L&D beds, including 15 labor rooms, 12 antepartum, 4 OB ED, and 3 OR suites, plus an 18-bed postpartum unit
• High-acuity patient population including hypertension, magnesium administration, C-sections (33% rate), preterm labor, insulin drips, vaginal deliveries, epidurals, inductions, antepartum, PROM, multiple births, and postpartum hemorrhage
• Nurses are expected to perform full recovery of the birthing patient and baby following both vaginal and C-section deliveries
• Up to 300 deliveries per month
• Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 active labor, 1:2 non-active laboring, 1:2–3 antepartum depending on acuity
• EMR: Epic (experience required)
• Equipment includes Alaris CareFusion IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Centricity/Qx fetal surveillance monitors, CAD Solaris epidural pumps, Panda Warmers, and Covidien SCDs
• 10-hour day shifts, 0700–1930, with some night shifts available (1900–0730)
• Every other weekend rotation required, though scheduling may vary based on unit need
• No mandatory on-call requirements
• Floating may occur to antepartum (within L&D) and occasionally postpartum (4th floor), within the nurse's scope and experience
• Holiday coverage required on a fair and equitable basis

Requirements

• Active WA RN license or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (AWHONN)
• Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 5+ years preferred; candidates with only 1 year of experience will not be considered unless they have prior travel nursing experience
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Experience with high-acuity OB patients including labor management and delivery of high-risk patients
• Ability to triage OB patients, circulate in the OR, perform cervical checks, and read/interpret fetal monitoring strips
• Ability to receive and recover normal newborns as needed
• At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be needed prior to start

Additional Information

• First-time travelers will be considered on a case-by-case basis upon review
• Traditional orientation consists of 1 day of hospital orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days on the unit; orientation is conducted during day shifts regardless of assigned shift
• Unit support includes CNAs, scrub techs (LPN/NRP certified), a receptionist/HUC, free-floating charge nurse, phlebotomy, scheduled break nurses (2 per shift), 24/7 RT coverage with NICU RTs available for high-risk deliveries, and 24/7 laborist coverage
• Residents, fellows, and additional physicians/midwives are available on-site
• Scrubs are provided by the facility and must not be worn outside the facility
• Free badge-access parking is available in designated areas
• RTO requests must be submitted prior to contract approval
• Schedule is made in 6-week increments and released 2 weeks before the schedule period begins; a block schedule cannot be guaranteed
