Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a 3J Oncology unit, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Details
- Oncology unit in a 457-bed, Level III Trauma, academic teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
- Unit consists of 14 private rooms with no negative pressure capability
- Patient population includes oncology patients (new and existing diagnoses), neutropenic fever, patients requiring fluid resuscitation/blood products, and medical overflow
- Patients may be receiving chemotherapy or biotherapy
- RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5
- Telemetry orders are monitored remotely via an off-unit arrhythmia center
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Philips
- Unit equipment includes bladder scanner, EKG machine, transport monitor, and Patient Safety Net
- 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM (1900–0700), 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – pediatrics only)
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the past year
- Proficiency in PIV starts, NG tube placement and management, Pleurx drains, surgical drain management, and chest tube management
- Epic EMR experience required
- Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
- Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
- ONS certification is preferred but not required; only experienced oncology RNs will be permitted to access ports
- CNAs support the nursing team with ADLs, bathing, foley care, mobility, repositioning, phlebotomy, 12-lead EKGs, and glucometer checks
- Phlebotomy is a shared responsibility among RNs, CNAs, and the IV team; an IV/VAT Team is available
- A charge nurse is typically present but may carry a patient assignment; a resource nurse is available when staffing allows
- Respiratory therapy and hospitalist coverage are available 24/7, though neither is dedicated exclusively to this unit
- Orientation includes facility-level NEO and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
- Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays
- Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
- Required scrub color is navy; parking is free
- Unit culture is described as professional and team-oriented
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
- Candidates who have held a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
