Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level II Special Care Nursery/NICU position requiring Level II NICU experience, couplet care competency, and the ability to attend high and low-risk deliveries.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, Level II Trauma designation
- Level II Special Care Nursery/NICU with 10 beds
- Patient population includes premature infants, low birth weight babies, and neonates recovering from respiratory conditions, hemodynamic issues, substance exposure, and other serious conditions; babies under 32 weeks are stabilized and transferred; no surgeries or ECMO
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–3 depending on acuity
- Common drips include TPN, lipids, and other typical neonatal drips
- RT equipment includes vents, bubble CPAP, and high flow; RNs must be experienced with this equipment; RT is in house 24/7
- NNP available 24/7; charge nurse present each shift
- Telemetry monitoring in use on the unit
- Charting via Epic (training provided during orientation)
- 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
- Every other weekend required (Friday and Saturday nights)
- Holidays rotate with permanent staff
- No on-call or standby requirement
- May float to Mother Baby unit
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WA state RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS, NRP, and STABLE certifications required; pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of NICU/SCN experience required; candidates with 1 year of experience may be considered if they have multiple prior travel assignments
- Level II NICU or Special Care Nursery experience required
- Experience with stabilization and attending both high and low-risk deliveries required
- Experience transitioning newborns required
- Postpartum couplet care experience preferred; NICU candidates with Level II SCN experience and delivery attendance may be considered even without postpartum experience
- Experience with vents, bubble CPAP, and high-flow oxygen required
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include caring for neonates requiring specialized support, attending high and low-risk deliveries, transitioning newborns, and couplet care when applicable
- Candidates from a noc nursery background who do not perform postpartum care may be considered if they can attend high and low-risk deliveries and provide nursery-level neonatal care
- Orientation includes one 8-hour compliance day with the manager, one 8-hour Epic class, and 2–3 12-hour unit-specific orientation shifts
- Scrubs are provided
- Manager conducts a phone interview with candidates prior to placement
- The unit manager is known to be supportive and communicative; travelers are expected to be open to unit-specific workflows, policies, and feedback
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
