Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele float pool position supporting an ED Holding unit, requiring at least 2 years of experience and strong telemetry skills.
Details
- ED Holding (EDIP) unit — an inpatient holding area located within the Emergency Department where patients await inpatient bed placement
- Adult medical/surgical patient population with any adult med/surg diagnosis; PCU-level patients possible
- Float pool position with expected floating to ED and Med/Surg areas as needed
- Target patient ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele patients and 1:4 for PCU-level patients
- Night shift, 18:45–07:15 (3x12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend required
- Required skills include: MS/Tele, telemetry interpretation and monitoring (unit and remote), dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response team use, colostomy care, feeding tube care, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral and PICC line care, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen delivery systems, and tracheostomy management
- Preferred skills include: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
- Equipment used includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and standard monitoring systems
- EMR: Epic (documentation); Pyxis (medication); SBAR (communication)
- Unit orientation is 12 hours; weekly facility orientation also provided
- Navy scrubs required
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Requirements
- Active NC RN license or compact RN license (may be submitted with license pending)
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required (may be submitted with certs pending)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant RN experience required
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two professional manager/supervisor references required — references from within the past 12 months are highly preferred
- Travel nursing experience is not required
Additional Information
- This is a high-acuity, mixed patient unit; all candidates will be interviewed
- Candidates who have previously worked for this health system as permanent, PRN, or per diem staff must wait 12 months before being considered as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved as long as it does not fall on a holiday; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment due to orientation
- Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are accepted as local travelers
- Pre-start online modules are required (approximately 8–10 hours for acute care roles); modules must also be completed annually
- Travel pairs are welcome — each traveler must have their own transportation and be agreeable to potentially different schedules
- Contracts are a minimum of 13 weeks, with the possibility of extension beyond 13 weeks
