Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Interventional Radiology position at a Level 2 Trauma acute care hospital in the Bronx, NY, requiring 1 year of IR experience and PALS certification.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting, Level 2 Trauma center located in the Bronx, NY
- IR department with 1 dedicated IR room; Cath Lab (8th floor) is used for vascular procedures and travelers may work in both areas within the same day
- Staffed by 7 RNs, handling 5–8 IR procedures per day plus CT prep and IV starts for approximately 50 patients per day
- Patient population includes adults and pediatrics requiring procedures such as biopsies, embolizations, thrombectomies (PE/DVT using INARI or EKOS systems), drain placements (abscesses, pleural effusions, paracentesis), pain management injections (cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine, shoulder, hip, knee), and line placements (PICCs, ports, Permcaths, tunneled catheters)
- RN roles include coverage of special procedures, breast biopsies, ultrasound-guided procedures (thyroid needle aspiration), CT/MRI scan preps, IV starts for pediatric and adult sedation cases, oral preps, and pacemaker patient monitoring
- Charting is performed via Allscripts EMR; some modalities also use paper charting depending on procedure type
- 12-hour night shifts with 7p start times (day shifts beginning at 7a are also scheduled); travelers are asked to remain flexible to fill scheduling gaps
- No on-call or call-back requirements; permanent staff cover nights and weekends
- Permanent staff cover all holidays; travelers are not expected to work holidays
- Royal Blue scrubs required; surgical scrubs or disposables may be worn when working in the Cath Lab
Requirements
- Active NY RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (PALS is mandatory; pediatric clinical experience is not required)
- Minimum 1 year of IR nursing experience required
- Proficiency in IV starts required
- Allscripts EMR experience preferred
- Critical care exposure or experience is a plus
Additional Information
- Responsibilities include patient assessment and charting via the Radiology Flowsheet, patient management across all three phases of care (pre, intra, and post-procedure), communication with physicians and mid-level providers regarding plan of care, and IV insertions and CT preps for scheduled patients
- IR Chair is in-house with an additional MD throughout the day; an on-call MD is available after 5p
- A Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) is paired with the physician for IR cases; IR techs come from the Radiology Department
- A charge nurse coordinates and manages the scheduling calendar and assists with patient care when needed
- Orientation consists of 3 shifts, with the manager evaluating whether additional support is needed
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may result to termination
