Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at an acute care hospital in Southern Idaho, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to work comfortably across both L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units on night shifts.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with an 11-room L&D unit (rooms double as triage rooms), 2 C-section suites, 2 PACU recovery bays, and 17 postpartum beds
  • Unit averages 5–6 deliveries per day and 150–180 deliveries per month
  • Triage volume averages 4–5 patients per day who are discharged home, not including admitted patients
  • Patient population includes pregnancies 30+ weeks gestation; patients under 30 weeks are stabilized and transferred out
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for intrapartum, 1:1–3 for antepartum, and 1:3–4 for postpartum/mother-baby
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium, and Insulin; Insulin drip experience is preferred but training is available
  • Primary float between L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby based on staffing and census; travelers may also be floated to sitter shifts elsewhere in the hospital and are typically first to float
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
  • Every-other-weekend requirement; nights schedule Fri & Sat as able, subject to change based on unit needs
  • Charting system: Epic (CPN, GE Connect for EFM); Epic experience is preferred
  • Telemetry techs are on the unit; RNs are not required to interpret their own tele strips but should be able to identify rhythm changes, basic rhythms, and life-threatening rhythms

Requirements

  • Active Idaho RN license or Compact RN license required (must be active, not pending)
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring (or NCC Fetal Monitoring Certification)
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; some postpartum/mother-baby experience also required
  • Must be comfortable practicing in both L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby settings
  • Must have experience managing high-risk OB patients
  • Must be able to circulate in C-sections
  • Candidates with only Critical Access Hospital experience will not be considered
  • Active driver's license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • Freely floats between L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby depending on staffing and census
  • Responsible for circulating in C-sections and caring for newborns at deliveries
  • Level 3 NICU on-site supports neonates 30+ weeks gestation
  • Supported by a charge nurse and resource nurse (neither routinely takes a patient assignment), CNAs in postpartum (vitals, ADLs, glucose monitoring, etc.), and CSTs available in-house 24/7
  • OB physician is on-site during daytime hours Mon–Fri and on-call at night; Neonatologist is on-site during the day with NNP/Neo APP coverage at night; CRNA in-house 24/7 for OB; RT available 24/7
  • 3-day orientation with a preceptor covering both L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby
  • Schedule is built 6 weeks at a time by the ANM; block scheduling is considered but not guaranteed, and no special scheduling requests will be accepted; staff may not work more than 5 shifts in a row
  • Travelers are expected to remain flexible to help fill gaps in permanent staff scheduling
  • May be included in holiday rotation
  • Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least one year before being considered for a travel assignment
  • Prefer candidates with experience in a similarly sized L&D and postpartum department; Epic experience is strongly preferred — be prepared to share the last time you used it
  • Located in Southern Idaho — a great fit for those who enjoy outdoor adventures and nature
American Traveler Job ID #P-705572. Pay package is based on 12 hour shifts and 36 hours per week (subject to confirmation) with tax-free stipend amount to be determined. Posted job title: Travel RN - Labor & Delivery
