Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Surgical Oncology position at a busy mixed-acuity unit requiring at least 2 years of experience and active OH or compact RN licensure.
Details
- Mixed-acuity PCU and Med-Surg unit within a surgical oncology hospital setting
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses spanning surgical oncology (breast, thyroid, melanoma), hepatobiliary (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine), colorectal, and plastic/reconstructive oncology
- Nurse-to-patient ratio goal is 1:4, but may reach 1:5 based on unit needs
- Specialized procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, oncologic emergency management, cytokine release syndrome management, insulin drips, and heparin drips
- Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Charting is performed in Epic
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Rotating day/night schedule is possible — shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
- Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
- No blocked or set scheduling is offered
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- PCU or surgical oncology nursing experience strongly applicable to this role
- Epic EMR experience is beneficial given the unit's charting system
Additional Information
- ONS Chemotherapy certification is preferred but not required
- Orientation consists of the first week Mon–Fri on day shift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Candidates may submit scheduling preferences, which are considered before the final schedule is posted
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who have previously worked at this facility do not need a 30-day break between assignments to change representation
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required for consideration
- A full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be disclosed at the time of submission

Units are nice, staff are kind. Single patient rooms with 4:1 ratios day and night on med surg.
Cons
Scheduled every weekend, floated for the first 6 weeks of contract every shift. Not traveler friendly even though they say they are. Staff are treated well not travelers.
