Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and strong telemetry and post-op nursing skills.

Details

  • 23-bed Med/Surg Tele unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with Chest Pain and Stroke Center designations
  • Patient population includes post-op orthopedic (hip, knee, shoulder replacement), bariatric, and spinal surgery patients, as well as those with acute/chronic conditions such as CHF, diabetes, hypertension, and electrolyte imbalances
  • Common procedures and equipment include non-titratable cardiac drips, insulin drips, chest tubes, wound vacs, trachs, PCA pumps, external fixators, and JP/Hemovac drains
  • Patient ratios: RN 1:4–6, LPN 1:4–6, with 2–3 CNAs per shift
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Glucommander, and portable vital sign monitors
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, with 36 hours per week scheduled
  • Weekend rotation of 6 shifts per 6-week schedule cycle
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility

Requirements

  • Active RN license — GA license or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) competency required — candidates must pass an EKG competency exam as part of compliance onboarding
  • ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and cardiac telemetry interpretation
  • Experience with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring
  • Medical-Surgical or Nephrology Nursing national certification preferred but not required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include caring for complex post-operative and medically complex patients, managing cardiac monitoring, coordinating care with interdisciplinary teams, and conducting discharge planning and patient education
  • CNAs assist with vital signs, glucose checks, bathing, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and transport; a dedicated hospital transport team is also available
  • Unit secretary is available 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM; house-wide call secretary covers 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Phlebotomy is nurse-drawn from CVLs on most units; a PICC team is available but there is no general IV team
  • 24/7 support includes Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, Intensivist, and a Central Telemetry Unit for monitoring
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage expected for 75% of major holidays, including Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • Scrub color: Navy for RNs
  • A clinical interview with the manager is required as part of the hiring process
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; the same rate is offered to local travelers at this GA facility
